The Financial Times examined new restrictions on VPN services and online content ahead of Türkiye’s local elections, reporting that the measures further narrowed access to independent news and information.
The article cited Professor Yaman Akdeniz, a co-founder of İFÖD, who stressed that using a VPN is not a criminal activity and that people rely on these services to secure their communications. It also reported İFÖD data showing that the number of fully blocked domain names had risen from roughly 350,000 at the end of 2018 to about 900,000.
