Freedom of Expression Association (İFÖD) organised the program entitled “Freedom of Expression Under the Grip of Censorship: The Past, Present, and Future of the Internet in Türkiye” took place on 21 December 2024 with the participation of young lawyers (young lawyers, interns, law students).
This program, held in Istanbul, has been prepared as part of İFÖD’s EngelliWeb project, which has been working for years on digital rights and combating Internet censorship. It is designed with the aim of raising social awareness in these fields and seeks to equip young lawyers, civil society, and media workers with knowledge and skills regarding digital rights, Internet censorship, and the future of freedom of expression in Türkiye.
In line with this, the program addressed the following topics:
- The History of Internet Censorship in Türkiye with Statistics and Examples
- Internet Censorship in Türkiye in the Context of Freedom of Expression
- The Protection of National Security and Public Order in the Context of Article 8/A of Law No. 5651
