Sözcü TV drew on data from İFÖD’s EngelliWeb 2024 report to discuss the extent of internet censorship in Türkiye.
The broadcast reported that the report, prepared by Prof. Dr. Yaman Akdeniz and Ozan Güven, had identified 1,264,506 websites and domain names blocked from access in Türkiye by the end of 2024. It also cited findings that 5,740 news URLs had been subjected to restrictions through 803 decisions issued by 257 criminal judgeships of peace.
The programme discussed restrictions targeting social media accounts, posts and platform content, with particular attention to decisions concerning allegations of political corruption and criticism of public officials during the election period. The EngelliWeb 2024 report is available in Turkish.
