Diken examined İFÖD’s “Digital Obedience Regime” report, which found that social media platforms prioritised commercial interests over users’ rights when complying with state censorship demands in Türkiye.
The article highlighted the lack of transparency surrounding platform restrictions and removals. Drawing on EngelliWeb data, it noted that the number of blocked websites had exceeded 1.2 million by the end of 2024 and that platforms continued removing content on the basis of provisions that were no longer in force.
